It is related to Surinam Cherry, Pitanga, Cherry of the Rio Grande and Grumichama. In Brazil it is known by several names: pitomba da bahia, uvalha do campo, ubaid do campo, or uvalheira. The tree bears a unique bright orange fruit with a thin, tender skin, and a soft, juicy, golden yellow pulp.
