Romeinse dolfijnkam, 1e-3e eeuw, brons Middeleeuwse overkleden & wapenrokken De tsuba (het pareerdeel)This comb shows in relief two dolphins with upward pointing tails, which together form the handle. The design is based on a Roman find dating between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD. Dolphins played a recurring role in myths in classical antiquity and were seen as helpful creatures: they are said to have saved the poet Arion of Lesbos from drowning, and were considered companions of sea gods. A graceful comb for those who want to portray Roman culture.
